Home Ministry withdraws 72 companies of Central Armed Police Forces from Jammu and Kashmir after high-level review meeting on security

New Delhi: The Home Ministry has decided to withdraw 72 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision comes after a high-level review meeting on security in the valley. The meeting was attended by Amit Shah, NSA Ajit Doval. The withdrawal will be with immediate effect.

The withdrawal orders means that around 7,000 personnel of the paramilitary troops will leave the Union Territory. As per the order 24 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force, 12 each of the Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Sashastra Seema Bal will be withdrawn from Jammu and Kashmir.

The review meeting was chaird by Ajit Doval and attended by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, G. C. Murmu, Union Home Secretary, Ajay K. Bhalla, etc.

20 companies was withdrawn in the beginning of this month.

The significant decrease in the paramilitary forces in the state comes after four months when the central government scrapped Article 370. The security forces were able to contain the fall out of the bold decision of the government.

Though, there were some violence and deaths in the valley, the forces were able to maintain the violence to some pockets. Continuous efforts of the security forces have brought the valley under control. The opposition had warned of  an uprising in the valley against the government’s decision. However, no such massive upheveal took place and the region is slowly coming back to normalcy.
