New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind will visit the Sabarimala temple next week. The President’s office has given instructions to the state government concerning the security of the President during the time of visit.
Reports say that Ram Nath Kovind will visit the holy shrine on Monday after he lands at Kochi on Sunday.
Sabarimala temple has been at the center of the storm because of its unique tradition of banning women in the age bar of 10 to 50 from entering the temple. The presiding deity Lord Ayyappa is considered celibate and that is the reason whey such a tradition exists.
This tradition is being followed for centuries. However, the Supreme Court last year passed an order allowing women to enter the holy shrine. Though women who were devotees avoided going to the temple, many left activists tried to enter the shrine with the help of communist government in Kerala.
It was strongly resisted by Ayyappa devotees who resorted to peaceful protests against the injustice meted out to the devotees. Many were brutally attacked by police and others were arrested and cases filed against them.
