Jaipur: Medical apathy in Rajasthan has touched shocking levels, when the government appointed panel reported that 105 children died at J. K. Lon Hospital in Kota district. The deaths occurred over a span of just one month.
The worst tragedy is that the infants shivered to death in the extreme cold which caused hypothermia. Shockingly the hospital did not have the equipments that normal hospitals have. The report of the panel reveals the extent of the hospital’s lack of equipments which could have save the infants from death.
Hypothermia is caused when the body temperature drops below normal and leads to death if the body do not produce enough heat. J. K. Lone Hospital did not have warmers which is normally used to keep infants warm during extreme cold weathers. Without the warmers the body temperatures of the infants continued to drop leading to their deaths.
Not only were warmers absent, the panel report reveals that many equipments were faulty or not available. There was an absence of oxygen pipelines in the hospital and the oxygen was supplied through cylinders to the infants. Even the ICU was not fumigated for months.
Reports say that even though Rs. 6 crore fund is available with the hospital no purchases of essential equipments is done.
