New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a modification from the Supreme Court concerning the guidelines for death penalty cases. The Centre seeks to change the guidelines from convict centric to victim convict. This comes after the convicts are trying to escape death at the gallows by taking available legal recourse.
The Central government wanted to impose a time limit to file a curative petition after review is rejected. The government wanted a victim centric guidelines to reinforce the people’s faith in the rule of law.
Nirbhaya convicts will be hanged on 1 February as per the new death warrants issued by the Delhi court. Earlier, it was scheduled to be on 22 January.
