Colombo: The Sri Lankan health authorities informed that a tourist woman from China, who was on her visit to Sri Lanka, has been confirmed with the deadly coronavirus infection. The 43 year old woman had reached Sri Lanka on January 19. The woman has been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Angoda. The woman from Hubei was suffering from fever when she admitted to hospital on Saturday.
“The first test on the patient was positive for the virus. We have sent a second sample to the Medical Research Institute at Borella for further examination. In the meantime, we will continue to treat her as a patient positive for new coronavirus at the IDH.” said Sudath Samaraweera, the Chief Epidemiologist with the Ministry of Health.
The deadly virus has killed more than 100 people in China. Countries are taking precautionary measures to block the virus outbreak.
