New Delhi: The greatest disaster in Delhi Assembly election is unequivocally the Congress party and its alliance partner the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), both of which could not even pull up a single win in the 70 seats of Delhi.
Congress contested in 66 seats giving 4 seats to its partner RJD. Both the parties fared poorly and could not even maintain a lead in any constituency at any point of time during the counting. The people of Delhi seems to have utterly rejected the Congress, a party that had ruled the state for more than a decade. It seems the curtain is finally closing in on the grand old party and its alliance.
The Congress is facing the second consecutive humiliating defeat in Delhi. In 2015 assembly election, the party did not get any seat. The same story is being repeated this time around too.
Senior Congress leader Sanjay Jha blamed the lack of leadership for its utter defeat. He said, “The fact that we haven’t been able to sort out our leadership issues now, it does demoralize the workers.”
President of Delhi Mahila Congress and AICC spokesperson, Sharmistha Mukherjee, was more scathing against the top leadership of the party.
She tweeted, “We r again decimated in Delhi. Enuf of introspection, time 4 action now. Inordinate delay in decision making at the top, lack of strategy & unity at state level, demotivated workers, no grassroots connect-all r factors.Being part of d system, I too take my share of responsibility.”
