New Delhi: Former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid has been named in an FIR registered by the police on March 6 for his alleged involvement in the north-east Delhi riots.
In the FIR, it is mentioned that the riots took place on February 23,24 and 25 and were a part of conspiracy. Police has claimed that the communal violence was a “premeditated conspiracy” which was allegedly hatched by former JNU student leader Umar Khalid and two others.
Khalid has also been accused of provocative speeches at two different places and appealed to the people to protest and block roads during the visit of US President Donald Trump to spread propaganda at global level about how minorities in India are being persecuted, the FIR alleged.
In the conspiracy, firearms, petrol bombs, acid bottles and stones were collected at numerous homes, FIR claimed.
Some reports also claim that he has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Co-accused Danish was assigned to collect people from outside Delhi to take part in the riots, police alleged.
About 53 people lost their lives and 200 were injured in the riots that broke out against Citizenship Amendment Act.
