Malappuram: Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty questioned the CPM-led government over asking the expatriates to go for paid institutional quarantine for a week. He said that most of the expatriates are flying back to India by borrowing money and asked how would they spend for quarantine period.
Kunhalikutty asked the government that what is the need of Centre’s financial assistance and public’s donation, if the state government cannot support the expatriates.
Opposition parties have also objected to the government’s decision of asking expatriates to spend money for quarantine on their own.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had yesterday said from now on all those who return from abroad have to go for paid institutional quarantine for a week and the next week at their respective homes.
The government made it clear that no one, including those who have also lost their jobs abroad, will be given a concession in this regard. They will have to bear the cost o their own.
The government is of the view that the cost will not be borne due to the increasing number of people. Meanwhile, the CM said that this does not apply to those who have already arrived in the state and are now in quarantine.
