Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister V Muraleedharan came down heavily on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after the Left government decided to reopen temples in the state amid rising numbers of coronavirus cases.

He penned an open letter to CM Pinarayi Vijayan through Facebook.

The Union Minister said that who asked the left government to reopen temples that are under Devaswom Board. “Did any temple committee or Hindu believers asked for the same?,” he asked.

Hence, there is some intention behind the decision of the Left government, said Muraleedharan.

“Every day you boast of Kerala model of COVID-19 prevention. However, at last when everything seems to fail, are you trying to escape by opening up temples? And the Devaswom Minister himself gave the hint from his own mouth when he said that it was Centre’s decision to reopen the temples and the state government has nothing to do with it,” said the Union Minister.

The central government sets a common guidelines across the country. It is up to the state government to understand the situation and implement it, he said.

Left government should withdraw the decision to reoprn temples under Devaswom Board, Muraleedharan demanded.

V Muraleedharan also asked Pinarayi Vijayan to act as Kerala Chief Minister and not as party secretary of atheist CPM.

What is the haste? Is this a deliberate attempt by the atheist @vijayanpinarayi Govt to denigrate devotees? Govt must heed to the voice of devotees and withdraw its decision.@CMOKerala @BJP4Keralam @JPNadda @AmitShah @narendramodi @BJP4India
