Lucknow: In a barbarous attack on Dalit community, about 10 houses were set on fire after a clash with Muslims at Batheti village in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night. The Yogi government announced an immediate probe into the case and ordered to slap National Security Act against the culprits.

According to reports, a minor altercation between the children turned out to be a deadly communal clash that led to burning of more than a dozen houses of Dalit families. The angry mob did not even spare domesticated animals and burned them alive.

In the police complaint filed by the Dalit families, it was alleged that the fight began after the Muslim boys hurled casteist slurs at them. Though the village headman intervened and solved the problem, the Muslim group attacked the Dalit colonies.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath ordered the police to invoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against Noor Alam and Javed Siddiqui, who spearheaded the violence. Police arrested 37 of the 57 named in the FIR lodged on a complaint filed by Dalit community on Wednesday.

The local police registered FIR against 58 people of the Muslim community under the sections of the Indian Penal Code and SC/ST atrocities act. A case is also lodged against 100 unidentified people in connection with the arson.

CM Yogi Adityanath also directed the district administration to provide houses to the Dalit families under the CM Awas Yojana.

“The families should also be given Rs 1 lakh as compensation,” a statement issued by the government said.
