New Delhi: Following the disengagement of the Chinese troops at Line of Actual Control, reports have been coming in that National Security Advisor of India Ajit Doval had held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang.

The meeting was held via video conference on Sunday and according to sources, the talks were held in a cordial and forward-looking manner.

The focus of the conversation between NSA Ajit Doval & Chinese FM Wang Yi was the full and enduring restoration of peace and tranquility and to work together to avoid such incidents in future, says reports.

“NSA Doval &Chinese FM agreed that both sides should take guidance from consensus of the leaders that maintenance of peace& tranquility in India-China border areas was essential for development of bilateral relations&that two sides shouldn’t allow differences to become disputes,” said MEA.

They re-affirmed that both sides should strictly respect and observe the Line of Actual Control and should not take any unilateral action to alter the status quo and work together to avoid any incident in the future that could disturb peace and tranquillity in border areas.

In this regard, they further agreed that both sides should complete the ongoing disengagement process along the LAC expeditiously. The two sides should also ensure a phased and stepwise de-escalation in the India-China border areas.

Therefore, they agreed that it was necessary to ensure at the earliest complete disengagement of troops along LAC & de-escalation from India-China border areas for full restoration of peace and tranquillity.

Following the talks, Chinese troops have pulled back their personnel and tents by 1-2 kilometres from the site of the Galwan valley in Eastern Ladakh.

“Chinese Army has moved back tents, vehicles and troops by 1-2 km from locations where disengagement was agreed upon at Corps Commander level talks”, Indian Army Sources said.

It is also to be noted that the development comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ladakh last week, sending out a signal to China.

“We have been very firm and resolute in sending out message to China. PM Modi’s personal visit to Ladakh has reinforced this,” sources within the government said.
