Kochi: The gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh has moved anticipatory bail plea in the High Court. She states that on the demand of Thiruvananthapuram UAE consulate office, a contact was established with the Customs office. Swapna in her anticipatory bail states that she has no relation with the state government or gold smuggling and it is the media prosecution happening against her.
Swapna states that her service in the UAE was a commendable one and since 2016 she has been working as an executive secretary. In 2019, she quit. She continued works related to UAE consulate on the request of Consulate General Rashid Khamis Al Sheimeili.
“Rashid Khamis Al Sheimeili, who is the present acting charge of the Consulate General of UAE, directed the petitioner to check with Customs regarding the delay of his consignment reached in the cargo on 30.06.2020. Again on 01.07.2020 as a secretary under work on request basis, the Consulate General instructed her to contact the Customs officer, cargo complex, Thiruvananthapuram and as a part of discharging the official duties the peitioner called the Assistant Commissioner of Customs and verified the status of diplomatic cargo,” read the anticipatory bill.
The petition says that she works for Price Waterhouse Coopers Ltd. he company is working on a project that is part of the IT department.
“Petitioner has no connection and involvement with respect to the smuggled gold,” the plea stated.
