Vijayawada: In a shocking incident, fire broke out at a hotel in Vijayawada on Sunday that was being used as a COVID-19 facility. Seven people lost their lives and 20 were rescued , said Vijayawada Police.
The hotel is hired by a corporate hospital for treating COVID-19 patients.
The possibility of the fire is assumed to be a short circuit, said Krishna District Collector AMD Imtiaz.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the accident.
“Anguished by the fire at a Covid Centre in Vijayawada. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover as soon as possible. Discussed the prevailing situation with AP CM @ysjagan Ji and assured all possible support,” PM Modi tweeted.
