Privatization of Thiruvananthapuram Airport: battle against the Centre will continue, says Chief Minister in Assembly

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday slammed the Central government on the privatization of the Trivandrum Airport and said that it was not in the interest of the government to take steps for privatization while the case was pending in the Supreme Court and that the Centre was violating federal priciples while state was fighting in the Supreme Court. The Chief Minister made the statement during the question-answer session.

The privatization of the airport is not for its development. with this step, it will not be possible to move an further than it is today. . we had asked the Prime Minister and the Minister of Civil Aviation to withdraw from the process of handing over the management of the airport to a private agency. Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the Central government for not keeping its promise to the state government in this regard and for trying to protect the interests of the monopolies.

Meanwhile, PT Thomas MLA pointed out that the state government was late in approaching the Supreme Court on this issue. S Sharma MLA also commented that the state government should take further legal and administrative action against this.

The issue was raised in the assembly after the agreement was signed to transfer the Trivandrum Airport management to the Adani Group.
