Union Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (March 28) extended his greetings to the people of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Panguni Uthiram.
“Hello brothers and sisters of Tamil Nadu! On the auspicious occasion of Panguni Uthiram, may Lord Murugan bless everyone with peace, happiness and prosperity,” tweeted Amit Shah.
The full moon which occurs in the month of Panguni is Panguni Uthiram. It marks an important festival honoring Lord Muruga, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy. Panguni Uthiram is highly significant to Lord Muruga as he married Deivanai, daughter of Lord Indra.
The festival is celebrated by Tamilians across the globe by decorating the idols beautifully with jewels and flowers. Devotees cook a special feast and offer it as prasadam. They observe a strict fast as well and recite prayers.
