Kerala reports 8,778 new COVID cases, 2,642 recoveries: Health Minister

Total 8,778 persons in Kerala were tested positive while 2,642 patients recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said on wednesday.

“In the last 24 hours, Covid was not detected in any person who recently came to Kerala from the UK (total 112 now) and their samples have been sent to NIV, Pune for further testing. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus,” the Minister said in a statement, here on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, 22 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 4,836.

The Minister said 65,258 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 13.45 per cent. Till now, a total of 1,39,52,957 samples have been sent for testing.

Today, 4 places were identified as new hotspots while no place was excluded from the list, taking the total to 420 hotspots in the State.
