United Kingdom on Monday added India to a ‘red list’ of countries from which travel to the UK is not allowed and also made 10 days hotel quarantine must for UK residents.

From 04:00 am UK time on Friday, most people who have travelled from India in the last 10 days will not be permitted to enter UK.

However, those who have are British or Irish residents, or people with UK residence rights, who have recently visited India, will be allowed to enter UK, but they will have to go into a 10-day hotel quarantine at the time of arrival.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that 103 cases of new variant were reported in UK, most of which are linked to international travel.

“After studying the data, We’ve made the difficult but vital decision to add India to the red list,” he told the House of Commons on Monday.

Earlier, in the day, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson canceled his visit to India scheduled for next week. Now, Johnson will hold telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
