After the DMK’s victory, the woman, Vanitha, went to the temple, but it was closed. Suddenly, she chopped off her part of the tongue in front of temple and offered it to the deity, reports received here said.

The incident took place at Paramakudi taluka in Podhuvakudi village in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil nadu. The woman is the wife of Karthik, who is a DMK member.

As locals found her with bleeding mouth, she was taken to Paramakudi Government Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment. The woman had cut the tip of her tongue measuring about one centimetre. The cut piece is missing. The open wound was closed with sutures.

Her condition is fine, according to Chief Medical Officer N.R.Naganathan. He said there may not be major impairment in her speech.
