Kerala government on Tuesday decided to dismiss and prosecute six policemen involved in the custodial death of Rajkumar who was accused of financial fraud.

Rajkumar was brought to Nedumkandam police station on June 15, 2019 and illegally detained there for five days. He died while on remand at Peerumade sub-jail on June 21, 2019.

The decision to dismiss sub-inspector K A Sabu, assistant sub-inspector Roy, driver Niyas, civil police officer Jithin, Rejimon and home guard James was taken on the basis of the Justice Narayana Kurup Commission report.

The Director General of Police was directed to dismiss the concerned police officers from service. Apart from this, departmental action will be taken against five police officers and disciplinary action against three doctors who were found guilty in the case.

It was also decided to provide a compensation of Rs 45 lakh to the family of the deceased and the victims.
Rajkumar was brutally tortured in police custody and succumbed to the injuries in 2019. The charge was that he had swindled away Rs 40 lakh that he had mobilised from the customers of a lending agency.
