Former Telangana Health Minister Etela Rajender has resigned from his MLA post here on Saturday, paving the way for another by-election in the state.

After paying tributes to Telangana martyrs at Gun Park near Assembly along with larger of his followers, Etela submitted his resignation letter to Assembly Secretary Dr V Narasimha Charyulu instead of the Speaker, who was not available in the office due to Covid-19.

In his resignation letter addressed to Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, the former Minister stated “I do hereby tender my resignation of my seat in the house with effect from June 12,2021.’

Etela had earlier announced his resignation from the primary membership of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and also MLA post from Huzurabad Constituency. However, he submitted his resignation in official format to the Assembly Speaker today.

On May 2, Mr Rajender was sacked from the State Cabinet following allegations of land encroachments made by the villagers from Achampet and Haimpet of Medak District to Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao.

BJP National General Secretary and Telangana state in-charge Tarun Chugh, who met the former Minister at his residence here on Friday, indicated that Etela would be joining the BJP .

He along with a larger number of his followers including former TRS MLA Enugu Ravinder Reddy and former ZP Chairperson Tula Uma will proceed to the National Capital this evening by a special flight to join the BJP in the presence of party National President JP Nadda on June 14.

With his resignation to the State Legislative Assembly, Huzurabad assembly segment will face a by-election.

As per norms, a by-election has to be conducted within six months from the date the Election Commission of India (ECI) notified the vacancy for the Constituency.
