Puducherry: CM to induct woman as Minister after a gap of over 40 years

Chief Minister N Rangaswamy has decided to induct a woman Minister into his Cabinet after a gap of more than 40 years. The Cabinet formation will take place on June 27.

According to N R Congress sources, Chandira Priyanga, a scheduled caste woman elected from Nedungadu in Karaikal region of the Union territory was given a Ministerial berth by Mr Rangaswamy.

Earlier, it was in 1980, a woman Renuka Appadurai, for the first time held the post of Education Minister in the Congress-DMK Coalition government in UT.

It may be noted that the Chief Minister had submitted the list of Ministers to Lt.Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday.

The names of the Ministers were not known and the Lt Governor forwarded the list to the Union Home Ministry which gave approval and the assent of President Ram Nath Kovid was also obtained yesterday itself.

Following this, the names of the Ministers to be inducted into the Cabinet have been leaked later.

It was already confirmed that Mr A Namassivayam and Mr. Sai J Saravanan Kumar were the two Ministers from BJP.

From the N R Congress, Mr Rangaswamy gave Minister post to K Lakshminarayanan ,Theni C Jayakumar and Chandira Priyanga, the daughter of former Minister late Chandragasu.

In the Cabinet, Mr Rangaswamy and another Minister will be from Vanniyar community, two from Yadavar community and two from Scheduled Caste community.

Mr Namassivayam who had won several times from Villianur constituency on the Congress ticket shifted to Mannadipet constituency as he switched over to BJP and won the election. He will be becoming a Minister for the fourth time. Lakshminarayanan and Theni C Jayakumar were becoming ministers for the second time.

Chandira Priyanga was elected from Nedungadu Constituency for the second time in a row and becoming a Minister for the first time, while Sai Saravanan Kumar is a debutant in the election and becoming a Minister.
