JP Nadda plants saplings on birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee in Kullu

Shimla/Kullu (HP), Jul 6(UNI):   BJP president JP Nadda on Tuesday said whatever the BJP was today was due to the efforts of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee who had formed the Bhartiya Jan Sangh on realising that the Congress was not doing enough for the people.

Mr Nadda made the observation while paying tributes to Dr Mookerjee on his birth anniversary in Kullu.

At booth number 73 of Pirdi, he also planted a sapling of Rudraksha and said that it was very important to understand the birth and life of the late leader as he was never associated with the party but was associated with an idea.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, BJP state president Suresh Kashyap, General Secretary Trilok Jamwal, Minister Govind Thakur, and Booth Tridev were present in the function.

Nadda said that Mookerjee became the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta at the age of 33, which was historic at that time. He (Dr Mukherjee) had played a significant role in keeping India united. When the Congress talked about giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Mookerjee opposed that to the then Prime Minister Nehru. He resigned from the Congress for the unity and integrity of India and founded the Jan Sangh.

Dr Mookerjee gave a slogan in protest against Article 370 and continued his fight against that. He said that during that time a pass was required to go to Jammu and Kashmir, but Dr Mookerjee resisted the move and went to Jammu without a pass in protest and got arrested, where he died under suspicious circumstances.

Mr Nadda said that the BJP which is the one of the largest parties in the world was the creation of the ideas of the late leader and all should remember him and follow his footsteps for making India a strong nation
