Shariat law in civil matters has made the life of a mother and daughter in distress

Shariat law in civil matters has made the life of a mother and daughter in distress. In Thiroorangadi in Malappuram, Sabira, a disabled mother and her sixteen year old daughter were asked to leave home by relatives. Relatives of Sabira have Shariat law to support. Property feud has been going on since sometime.

Family members and Masjid committee didn’t support Sabira. Police also didn’t take her issue seriously. She then approached Janam TV and explained her plight. Sabira’s father’s brothers have been threatening her to leave home. They said that she has no stake in the family property. This threat became more serious after her grandparents’ death. Two months ago her grandfather passed away.

Last day Sabira’s father’s brother, Aboobacker came home and asked her to leave home. Otherwise, he said, he would demolish the house with JCB. He said he won’t give even a quarter cent to Sabira. He also added that even if Sabira approach court, she won’t get any victory. Aboobacker said the house belonged to him and his brothers. One year ago they pelted stones at Sabira’s home, window glasses were broken, and also attacked her.

Even though Sabira approached Masjid committee, they said according to Shariat law she has no stake in the property, though family members can give her something if they wish.

Many Muslim women suffer cruelty due to Shariat law practice even in civil matters and they won’t even get any support from family members and religious bodies.
