New Delhi: The ban on single-use plastic, introduced by the Central Government, is effective from today. The manufacture, import, storage, distribution, sale and use of the one time use plastic products are now banned.

Plastic sticks on ear buds and balloons, plastic flags, Candy covers, Ice-cream covers, plastic papers, cups, glasses, cutleries are all included in the list of banned items. Forks, spoons, knives, trays, invitation cards, cigarette packets and plastic or PVC banners below 100 microns will also be banned.

The ban is implemented by the Ministry of Forest and Environment in view of protection of the environment. Strict actions will be taken against people in case of violation of the rules.

As per instructions, individuals and households will be fined up to 500 Rs and 5000 Rs will be levied from such institutions for using banned plastics. In addition to this, 1 year imprisonment and a fine of 1 lakh rupees can also be charged.

The Central Government stated that companies producing single-use plastics will not be allowed to continue production from today. Strict instructions were given to form special control rooms and squads to prevent the production of single-use plastics.
