London: The successor of Boris Johnson will be announced on September 5, says Tory Leadership Election.
The candidate index has enlisted the names of 11 famous personalities including the former British Indian Minister Rishi Sunak.
The election proceedings will be handled by the 1992 Committee of Conservative Back Bench MPs. Chairman of the committee, Sir Graham Brady, said that nominations can be submitted till Tuesday.
The committee has revised its rules and regulations. A minimum support of 20 members is required to get elected to the leader position. The rules also mentioned that the members who get 30 votes can only enter to the second stage of the election procedure.
It is observed that the first and second level of the ballot election will be held on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. The winner will be declared through a system of ‘One candidate one vote’. The candidate who gets the majority will be appointed as both the leader of the Tory and the Prime Minister of the UK. So far, there is no clear idea about who gets the support of the 358 MPs from the Conservative Party.
The former PM Boris Johnson formally resigned as leader of the Conservative Party on last Thursday.
