NewDelhi: All India Football Association (AIFF) has been suspended by FIFA. The ban was imposed for violating FIFA rules. Interference from outside in the governance of the association is the reason behind the action.
The top Court had appointed a temporary governing body for the All India Football Association. This is against the rules of FIFA. In this situation, Indian clubs are not allowed to participate in AFC Women Club Championship, AFC Cup and AFC Champions League. The Women World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 11 to 30. The league which was supposed to take place in 2020 was rescheduled due to corona. Indian team are not allowed to play until the suspension is lifted.
The suspension will remain until full control of all the affairs of AIFF is restored, informed FIFA. Meanwhile, FIFA had earlier came out against the Supreme Court’s move to hold elections immediately after dismissing AIFF. It had also warned India that it is up to them to approve the national federations and if other elements intervene in it, they will face ban.
