New Delhi: India sparked gold in the Under 20 World Championship. Antim Panghal marked the history of achieving the first gold medal in women wrestling. Panghal defeated Atlyn Shagayeva in the finals of the 53 kg section.

Panghal started the game after defeating German player Ameri Olivia. In the second round she encountered Japan’s Ayaka Kimura and defeated Ukraine’s Natalia Klivchutska in the semi finals with a score of 11-2.

In the finals, she defeated a Kazakhstan player with a score of 8-0. Panghal had won bronze in Cadet World Championship and gold in Asian Junior Championship last year. She had also received silver in the U 23 Asian Championship.

India’s Deepak Puniya, Ramesh Kumar, Palvinder Singh Cheema and Pappu Yadav were champions in the previous years.

The other Indian players who reached the finals were not able to win the gold medal. In the 62 kg session, Sonam Maliq, who won the Under 17 world championship earlier, was defeated by Nonoka Osaki and won silver. Japan’s Mahiro Yoshithake defeated Indian player Priyanka in a score of 0-8.
