Thiruvananthapuram: As the stray dogs attack increasing day by day, the department of Health has decided to speed up the action with the support of local self government. The Health department has also suggested the dog owners to take vaccines for their pets.
The death of Abhirami, the 12 year old girl who was bitten by stray dog and died on Monday while in hospital, has sparked outrage against the Government . The Government convened a meeting including different departments and decided to strengthen the precautionary steps against rabies with the cooperation of local self government and animal husbandry departments.
Though an action plan was made earlier, all went in vain. The stray dogs will be sterilized and vaccination will be given. The meeting also reached in a conclusion to make sure about the anti rabies vaccination of all pet dogs in the state.
Around 96,000 people were bitten by stray dogs in six months, and the number of attacks reached 10,59,000 in last six years.57 people lost their lives due to rabies infection. It is alleged that the Government’s programme is not being implemented properly.
