Kottayam: Policeman suspended for stealing mangoes from a fruit shop. Idukki civil police officer Shihab was suspended. CCTV footage of Shihab stealing mangoes from the fruit shop in the early hours was released yesterday.
The suspension order was issued by the Idukki District Police Chief. The suspension order says that Shihab’s actions have brought the entire police force to shame. After the CCTV footage and news of the incident came out, there was a lot of criticism against the police. Shihab stole the mangoes on 30th of last month. He was returning from duty at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, 10 kg of mangoes worth Rs 600 per kg were stolen. The incident was captured on the nearby CCTV.
Shihab is accused in several criminal cases including theft. Earlier, a case of molestation was registered against him at Mundakayam police station. After this, Shihab, who was under suspension, returned to service recently.
