Marathwada lashed by heavy rains

Aurangabad: Rains have been playing havoc for some days across the Marathwada region in Maharashtra, damaging standing crops in many places.

Reports reaching here from district headquarters said that Osmanabad city and surrounding area received heavy rains on Monday evening. Due to this, the harvested soybean crop was damaged.

Roads in urban areas were closed due to the rains and traffic was disrupted. Medium and small irrigation projects in the district are overflowing.

Aurangabad city received heavy rains on Monday night while surrounding areas got light to moderate rain. Heavy rains occurred in some parts of Beed district.

Currently, water is being discharged from the four gates of the Manjara dam at a rate of about 3,500 cubic feet per second.

Reports from Parbhani district stated that four gates of Yeldari dam in Jintur taluka of district have been opened, and water is being released into the riverbed at a rate of 648 cubic feet per second.

Also, 12 gates of Lower Dudhana project have been opened and water is being released at a rate of 1,120 cubic feet per second.

The Flood Control Department has warned the villages along the river to be careful.

Roads in Pune were flooded due to the heavy rains.
