Patna: Syam Sundar Das released from Pakistan jail after 17 years of imprisonment. Syam returned to his home at Supol district on the day of Diwali.

In 2005, Syam went to Punjab with five of his friends. They accidentally crossed the Pakistan border near Amritsar and were caught by the Pakistan army. Syam’s friends were released after producing their ID proofs but Syam spent 17 long years in Jail as he failed to submit any of his documents.

It was in 2021 Syam’s parents came to know that their son was imprisoned in Pakistan and they contacted the local police immediately. They produced his ID proofs and then the Central Government took initiative in the case and produced the documents to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. Syam Sundar was released on 29 September 2022.

Syam returned to India through the Wagah border and has been admitted at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Amritsar. He said that he is mentally broken as he was brutally tortured by the Pakistan army. He also said that many of the Indians are trapped in the Kot Lakhpat Jail under terrible conditions.
