Chennai: Vande Bharat, a semi-high speed train, has started service in South India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat train from Mysore to Chennai through Bengaluru. This is the fifth in the country and the first in South India. The Prime Minister flagged off the train from Bengaluru. Officials say that with the launch of the new train service, passengers will be able to reduce their travel time and provide a better experience.

The Vande Bharat train can travel at a speed of 160 km per hour. Distance from Chennai to Mysore is 479 km. The train will reach the destination in six hours and 40 minutes. There are 1128 seats in 16 coaches. After starting from Mysore, Vande Bharat will have a stop only at Bengaluru City Junction. The train will operate on all days except Wednesday.

Currently Shatabdi Express, Brindavan Express, Mass Double Decker, Guwahati Express, Lalbagh Express, Chennai Express, Kaveri Express, Chennai Mail etc are servicing between Bangalore and Chennai. But Vande Bharat’s facilities and superior travel experience make it different from others, officials say.
