Released all six accused in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case

Chennai: The six accused imprisoned in the case of the assassination of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi have been released from the prison. Nalini’s husband Murukan, Shanthan, Jayakumar, his relative Robert pious and P. Ravichandran were released from the jail after 31 years of imprisonment.

They were released after getting the copies of the court order in Vellore and Puzhal jails. All six people were released from the jail around 5 pm yesterday. Sri Lankan nationals Murukan, Shanthan, Robert Pius were transferred to a special centre in Tiruchirappalli where foreigners without apt documents resided.

Nalini returned to her home in Vellore. It is reported that both Nalini and her husband have decided to go to London. Their daughter is working as a doctor there. They expressed their regards to both the Tamil Nadu Government and Tamil people.

Ravichandran was received by his relatives in Thoothukudi. Another accused in the case, Perarivalan, had been released from the jail on 18th May on the basis of a special provision in section 142. Pointing to this, both Nalini and Ravichandran filed a complaint and the Supreme Court ordered the release of the remaining 6 people in the case yesterday.
