Thiruvananthapuram: A state wide special drive, ‘operation oil’, has launched by the food safety department , said Health Minister Veena George. The drive aims to identify and block the adulteration in coconut oil.
The authorities have held inspection around 100 centres and imposed fine.
Oil sale without registration will be strictly banned and will also face legal proceedings. One can produce only one brand oil in the state. The minister also added that oil samples will be checked to identify the presence of sulphur.
Notices were issued and fine imposed to 294 firms as of now. 651 samples have been collected and sent to laboratories. 6959 kilogram of rotten fish was seized and destroyed. 66 night check and 25 post based inspection held in various districts. 446 search conducted under ‘operation Matsya’ and 537 inspections under ‘operation Shavarma. Action has been taken against 177 firms, added Veena George.
