New Delhi: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will be the chief guest on Republic Day 2023, the Ministry of External Affairs has announced. The Ministry also informed that a formal invitation has been handed over to the President of Egypt in this regard. On the occasion of celebrating the 75th anniversary, India invited the Egyptian President as the Chief Guest on Republic Day. The ministry also said that the relationship between the people of the two countries is strengthened because of civilization.
The friendly nations became part of the Republic Day celebrations in 1950. Indonesia’s President Sukarno was the first to be the guest of honor on Republic Day. In 1952, 1953 and 1966, the Republic Day celebrations were celebrated without a foreign leader as the chief guest. In 2020, the then Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was the chief guest.
In 2021, the then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was invited as the chief guest, but his visit was canceled due to the threat of Corona. Former US President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, former French Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande have also been chief guests at Republic Day celebrations in the past.
