New Delhi: Delhi High Court allows abortion at 33 weeks of pregnancy. A 26-year-old woman filed a petition. The court order is with the observation that the mother’s decision is final. Delhi High Court Judge Pratibha M Singh delivered the important verdict.
The woman sought permission for an abortion after her unborn child was diagnosed with a serious illness. The unborn child was diagnosed with neuron-related issues. Following this the woman filed a petition in the HC seeking abortion of the pregnancy which passed 22-24 weeks.
The court sought reports on the matter including reports from the hospital. The hospital authorities gave a report that the child has health problems but will survive. But the court stated that the woman’s decision was final as the mother was worried about this and did not want to give birth.
