Gandhinagar: The counting of votes for the assembly election in Gujarat began at 8 am. There are 182 seats in total. 37 centres in 33 districts have been prepared for vote counting. Postal ballots will be counted first. The Election Commission appointed around 700 officials including 182 observers at the counting stations. Counting of votes will be done under heavy security.

Exit polls predict that the BJP, which has been ruling the state for three decades, will make a huge lead this time. Both exit polls have predicted a huge victory for the BJP. It is predicted that the opposition Congress will lose its seats and the Aam Aadmi Party will not be able to make significant gains. Republic TV predicts that BJP will win 128 to 148 seats, Congress will win 30 to 42 seats and AAP will win 2 to 10 seats. Times Now exit poll predicts BJP 139, Congress 30, AAP 11.

Counting of votes is also today in Himachal Pradesh. A total of 412 candidates are contesting in 68 constituencies. Most exit polls predict that the BJP will continue in power. Counting of votes will be held today in the Uttar Pradesh Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, where by-elections were held, and six other assembly constituencies in different states.
