Palakkad: A pregnant woman from Attappady tribal region was brought to the nearby hospital by carrying her in a cloth. In the middle of the night, the pregnant woman was carried for three and a half kilometres tied in a cloth. Relatives said that the woman of Katukamanna had to be brought in this way because they did not get the service of the ambulance on time. The woman gave birth to a girl child soon after reaching the hospital.
Unavailability of an ambulance and the poor condition of the road led the relatives to carry the pregnant woman in a cloth. When the woman felt the pain at night, the relatives informed the concerned authorities. Even though they waited for an hour, they did not get the service of the ambulance and the young woman was tied in a cloth and carried for three and a half kilometers. The woman went to the hospital and gave birth to a baby girl.
Katukamanna is one of the nine villages in Attappady that have not yet received electricity and adequate road facilities. These villages are located in the hills adjacent to the Silent Valley region.
Even as the government claims to have taken urgent measures to curb the rising rate of infant mortality, the native people at Attappady region are not getting the benefit. The residents of the clan complained that every time there is a controversy, the government does not consider them except for making promises. Residents of the clan are painfully saying that they have lost faith in the government.
