New Delhi: Reports say that the NIA have conducted raids at Shaheen Bagh, including the house of the sole accused in the Kerala train burning case, Sharukh Saifi. The raids were conducted on the basis of statement given by Saifi.
There is no information of anyone being taken into custody, said the report.
The NIA raids were led by two officers from the Kochi Unit of the agency. The team arrived at Shaheen Bagh at 5 am and continued their search till 11 am.
In addition to Saifi’s house, the NIA raided his friend’s house and two other shops, said the report.
On April 2 Sharukh Saifi sprinkled petrol on the passengers travelling in a Kannur-bound train and set fire. In the mele three people jumped from the compartment resulting in their deaths.
ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, had earlier told that Saifi is highly radicalized and the videos on his mobile phones include speeches made by fundamentalists Islamic preacher, Zaik Naik and Pakistani Theologian, Israr Ahmed.
The NIA took over the case after Kerala police had filed UAPA against the accused.
