Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high temperature warning in eight districts in Kerala. The IMD warned that the temperature is likely to increase by 2-4 degrees in the state.
The temperature in Kozhikode and Palakkad districts can go up to 37 degree Celsius and 36 degree Celsius in Kottayam, Alappuzha and Kollam districts. The temperature can go up to 35 degree Celsius in Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram districts. An yellow alert has been sounded in these districts.
Meanwhile, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has warned people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight from 11 am till 3 pm. Elderly people, pregnant women, children, differently-abled persons and those suffering from other diseases should be careful not to expose themselves to direct sunlight during this time. Those involved in construction work, farming and street vending should avoid exposure to sunlight. Children or pet animals should not be left inside parked vehicles.
The IMD said on Tuesday that the southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala on June 4. “This year, the southwest monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to be slightly delayed. The monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to be on June 4 with a model error of 4 days”, informed the Met Office.
The IMD has also forecasted that thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala from May 16 to 20.
