External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has given a befitting reply after European Union (EU) Foreign policy chief Joseph Borell demanded action against India for making refined products from Russian crude. S Jaishankar said that he should looks at EU regulations before criticizing India.

“Look at EU Council regulations, Russian crude is substantially transformed in the third country and not treated as Russian anymore. I would urge you to look at Council’s Regulation 833/2014,” responded Jaishankar. He said this while he was in Belgium after completing visit in Bangladesh and Sweden.

At the same time, Jaishankar and Borell held discussions at the trade technology talks in Brussel. But Borell didn’t attend the press conference that followed. Jaishankar reached Brussels on Monday. Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar also attended the meeting along with Jaishankar.

Borell alleged that India was reselling Russian crude oil as refined fuels including diesel to Europe and other Western nations. He made such a remark as India was not supporting Western nations move to tighten sanctions on Moscow’s energy sector.
