Chennai: Tamil Nadu Forest Department informed that they will tranquilise wild tusker Arikomban on Sunday morning. Arikomban entered Cumbum town on Saturday. Kumki elephants have set off from Anamala for the mission to capture Arikomban. The wild tusker’s health condition will be examined after tranquilising it and will be taken to inner forest in the special vehicle brought from Hosur.
Arikomban who reached Cumbum town had caused widespread damage. Several vehicles were destroyed and one man was injured in the attack. The video of Arikomban chasing people in the town had gone viral in the social media. Following this, section 144 has been enforced in Cumbum town.
The Tamil Nadu government had decided to tranquilise the wild tusker as it was affecting the people’s lives. Arikomban had created issues in Tamil Nadu earlier also. The video of Arikomban running towards a government bus was widely circulated. The visit to Meghamalai was banned due to Arikomban issue.
As the situation worsened, the district administration has directed the people not to come out of their houses. The police and the Forest Department are on duty. Following this, traffic control was imposed in Cumbum area. The wild tusker is currently roaming in residential area.
