Thiruvananthapuram: A controversy had emerged regarding the fundraising efforts for the ‘Loka Kerala Sabha’ regional meeting in the United States, which will be attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The organizers had introduced Gold Passes, priced at Rs. 82 lakhs, and Silver Passes, offering the opportunity to have dinner with the Chief Minister and a seat beside him on the stage.
However, it has been reported that there have been no takers for these passes thus far.
The organizers had planned the ‘Loka Kerala Sabha’ regional meeting as a high-profile event, resembling a celebrity show. The passes for attendees were categorized as Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The Gold Pass was priced at $1 lakh, the Silver Pass at $50,000, and the Bronze Pass at $25,000.
The event’s tariff card displays images of the luxurious Marriot Marquis hotel in New York, where the event will take place, along with the details of the facilities and perks available to Pass holders. Sponsors who purchase the Gold Pass are promised a dinner with the Chief Minister and a prominent place on stage, among other benefits.
This tariff card has been widely circulated among Malayalees residing in the US.
However, the organizers of the event have not received the anticipated response, as no Gold or Silver Passes have been purchased thus far. The total amount collected stands at $280,000 only.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his team will depart for the United States on the evening of the 7th. He will participate in the meeting scheduled for the 9th, 10th, and 11th of this month. Following the ‘Loka Kerala Sabha’ gathering, he will travel to Cuba and will only return to Kerala after concluding his visit to that country.
