Pro-Khalistan slogans raised at Golden Temple on the anniversary of Operation Blue Star

Amritsar: Report say that pro-Khalistan slogans and posters of Bhindranwale was raised at Golden Temple on the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star, today.

According to the report, pro-Khalistan slogans were raised in the premises of the Golden Temple despite heavy security. The sloganeers also raised the posters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as well as swords. It is reported that Ardas were also performed at the temple premises.

The crowd was addressed by Shiromani Akali Dal leader and MP Simranjit Singh Mann according to the report.

DCP Parminder Singh Bhandal informed that heavy security has been deployed at the temple and police officials in civilian dress stationed. The city has been sealed to prevent any untoward incident, said the report quoting the officer.

Security forces is on high alert since early this week as many Sikh organisations had announced various programs in view of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star.

Meanwhile, NIA conducted searches at ten places in Punjab and Haryana in case related to banned organization, Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF).

Operation Blue Star was the security mission undertaken by the Indian Army in 1984, to flush out Sikh militants who were holed up in the Golden Temple at Amritsar. It was led by the Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who wanted to create an independent state for Sikhs.

Official reports say that Operation Blue Star resulted in the martyrdom of 83 Army jawans and death of 492 civilians. The Sikh community was enraged by the desecration of their temple and reports say that it led to the assassination of then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
