Putin raises the stakes in Russia-Ukraine war; says Russia will deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus next month

Moscow: Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has raised the stakes in the on-going war between Russia and Ukraine, after he said that he would deploy nuclear weapons in neighboring country Belarus.

If Putin deploys ‘nuclear weapon’ in Belarus, it would be the first time that the country is moving its nuclear arsenals out of the country since the fall of the Soviet Union.

The move from the Russian President comes as retaliation against the US decision to provide F-16 to Ukraine. Russia is blaming the western block for extending the war by arming Ukraine and trying to bring Russia to its knees.

He said that the nuclear weapons will be deployed in Belarus next month after the necessary facilities are made ready there by early July. Belarus is one of the few allies of Russia in that region. The country shares around 700 miles of border with Ukraine and has been a staging ground for Russia to mount the invasion of Ukraine.

It is reported that Ukraine has begun a counteroffensive and has reclaimed ground in the south and east of the country that was under Russian occupation.

Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
