Srinagar: Reports say that an Indian Army jawan posted in Srinagar and hailing from Tamil Nadu, has posted a video on social media, saying that his wife was stripped and beaten up by a crowd of 120 people. He adds that he had appealed to the local police but they did not take action.

The jawan, Havaldar Prabhakaran said that 120 people joined together to beat up his wife, Keerthi, who is running a small shop. The crowd also destroyed the place. He said that local police did not take any action when first approached.

The incident happened at Padavedu village in Tamil Nadu, according to Parbhakaran’s statements. It happened on 10th of June and he posted his video appealing for help on the same day itself. His wife has sustained injuries and is in hospital.

Reacting to the video, Tamil Nadu BJP President, Annamalai expressed his sorrow over the incident, according to the report. He also phoned up the jawan and promised him that he will visit his wife in hospital with other BJP workers.

The report said that Tiruvannamalai SP Karthikeyan have promised appropriate action against the perpetrators after a written complaint is received.

The report added that the jawan’s family has a small shop in front of a temple that belongs to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, which comes under the government of Tamil Nadu.

A gang from a nearby shop wanted them to close down and move out so as to expand their business, said the jawan. Keerthi, who resisted their demands was beaten up by the gang.
