Ernakulam: The Kerala High Court has issued a stern directive to the Travancore Devaswom Board concerning the discharge of sewage into the Vaikom Sri Mahadeva Temple pound. In response to a report submitted by the executive engineer, who confirmed the drainage from the Goshala (Cowshed) and cafeteria flow into the temple pond. The court has mandated the board to take immediate action to resolve this issue.

Furthermore, the High Court has also addressed the issue of animal welfare of the Goshala at the Temple. The court emphasized the importance of ensuring the health and well-being of the cows and bulls housed in the Goshala, urging the Travancore Devasom Board to take immediate action to improve their living conditions.

According to the report submitted by the veterinarian appointed by the court, it states that the four calves and three cows in the Vaikom Temple’s cowshed are not being provided with proper ventilation and are kept in an inadequate space.

The report by the senior surgeon recommends either maintaining or constructing a new shed at the Vaikom Temple. The Kerala high court issued the directive to the Travancore Devaswom Board based on its findings.

On June 7, 2023, the senior veterinarian submitted a report, and it was studied by the senior government pleader, the standing commissioner of the Travancore Devaswom Board, and the advocate commissioner.
