Thiruvananthapuram: In a shocking turn of events, a secretariat march organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), calling for the arrest of former Students’ Federation of India (SFI) leader Vidya on charges of falsifying a fake certificate, was reportedly met with brutal force by the police.
The peaceful march took a violent turn as clashes erupted between the police and ABVP activists near the Secretariat.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the handling of peaceful protests by law enforcement authorities.
During the confrontation, numerous individuals, including the ABVP state secretary, sustained injuries as a result of the brutal police attack. The Kerala Police resorted to using lathi charge and water cannons to disperse the ABVP march, causing chaos and blocking Trivandrum MG Road, leaving vehicles stranded for hours.
ABVP activists have also raised serious allegations of misconduct, claiming that male police officers attempted to molest the female activists, as the presence of lady police personnel was reportedly minimal. Additionally, ABVP State Secretary Sreehari criticised the fact that the SFI members of universities in Kerala are involved in several malpractices, and the higher education department is also encouraging such behaviour.
The incident has generated widespread attention and debate, highlighting the clash between the ABVP and the Kerala Police. The ABVP vows to continue their efforts to ensure justice and hold those involved accountable.
