Cairo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bestowed with the prestigious “Order of the Nile” award, Egypt’s highest state honour, by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during a ceremony in Cairo. This accolade marks the 13th time PM Modi has been recognised with the highest state honours from various nations around the world, signifying a moment of immense pride for India.
Over the course of his nine-year tenure, PM Modi has received numerous international awards, including the Companion of the Order of Logohu, the Companion of the Order of Fiji, and the Ebaki Award presented by the Republic of Palau.
During his visit to Cairo, PM Modi and President El-Sisi also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), further strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Moreover, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to pay homage to the Indian soldiers who made supreme sacrifices during the First World War, by visiting the Heliopolis War Cemetery in Cairo. He also visited the Al-Hakim Mosque, a significant historical and cultural site dating back to the 11th century, located in Cairo.
This visit by PM Modi to Egypt from June 24–25 is a reciprocal gesture in response to President El-Sisi’s presence as the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations earlier this year. President El-Sisi’s visit to India was highly successful and resulted in both nations agreeing to elevate their relations to the status of a strategic partnership.
