In a show of solidarity, nurses from both government and private hospitals in the state have initiated a strike, demanding an increase in their basic salary to 40 thousand rupees. The nurses’ association has announced that they will be organizing a secretariat march on July 19 to bring attention to their cause.

The nurses’ association has made it known that they will resort to organizing a long march in the event that their demands go unaddressed.

The association expressed disappointment in the lack of recognition for their profession from both the government and private sectors. Insufficient numbers of nurses in most hospitals, across both sectors, have resulted in an overwhelming workload for those currently employed. Despite their dedication and hard work, they feel undervalued and underappreciated. Therefore, demanding a minimum salary of rupees 40,000 per month and called for strike.

In an effort to amplify their demands, the nurses are gearing up for a long march from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram, scheduled to take place in November.

This sustained protest aims to draw attention to the urgent need for better working conditions and fair compensation for the nursing community.
